The chiropractic care in our office is an integrated approach where your skeletal (primarily your spine) and muscular system are both evaluated and treated. It is important to us that we not only address any spinal misalignments that you have, but also address the muscles that connect to the spine. Our treatments are individualized to each patient’s need. We are strong believers in making sure that we can help prevent future spinal problems.

The initial visit will take approximately one hour. This enables us to perform a complete health history and to spend time understanding your area of complaint. After the initial visit, treatments usually last about 30 minutes. We always have time set aside to answer your questions!

The belief in our office is that we want you to feel better in the shortest time possible. It is true that we may ask to see you more initially to help your road to recovery. However, it is our goal to get you better soon and to then to reduce your care quickly because you are feeling better with the goal to keep that way. Therefore we encourage general maintenance care to keep those aches and pains away, especially for those individuals who are in repetitive type areas such as on-going computer use. Most of our patients continue care as their choice because adjustments make them feel better.

A gentle, specific “thrust” delivered by hand or instrument. The purpose of the adjustment is to correct your spine thus removing the nerve interference in your body.

That sound is not your spine “cracking” or “popping” like most people think. That sound is created by gas (in this case, nitrogen) rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. Another example of this phenomenon would be the “pop” sound you hear when the cork is taken out of a champagne bottle. Not all chiropractic adjusting techniques produce this noise. In fact, some adjusting techniques use little force and thus produce no noise at all.

Most people assume the “cracking” and “popping” sounds are the same as a chiropractic adjustments, however, the two are NOT the same thing. If a person has a desire to “crack” his/her neck or back, it is often that one area of their spine is stuck or jammed causing another area to move too much and pop by itself. It is the stuck or jammed area that needs to be properly adjusted by a chiropractor, so that the other parts of the spine will not be hypermobile or noisy. Even chiropractors can not adjust themselves. When you crack your back you may be relieving the tension for a little while. Do you notice how it keeps coming back? That is because you are not giving yourself a specific chiropractic adjustment. The cause of the spinal tension, the stuck or jammed vertebrae, has not been corrected. Any person who makes a habit out of cracking or popping their back or neck needs to go to a Doctor of Chiropractic to have their spine checked.
